Earlier this year, our team was thrilled to be part of a standout project in downtown Ottawa: the installation of a high-efficiency Swegon Gold HVAC unit at a local veterinary clinic. What made this job especially unique wasn’t just the performance of the unit – but how seamlessly it was integrated into the space, both functionally and aesthetically.
The Swegon GOLD unit was selected for its high-efficiency design, customizable configurations, and advanced airflow management – key requirements in a veterinary environment where air quality and precise climate control are critical. Its energy recovery system and optimized fan technology provide significant efficiency gains, while the modular design allowed the equipment to be tailored to the spatial and operational needs of the clinic.
A unique challenge was the unit’s placement within the clinic. Located directly behind the reception desk, the system required careful planning to ensure it would integrate both functionally and visually. To achieve this, the interior design was finalized after delivery of the equipment to align the aesthetic of the space with the mechanical installation. This level of coordination between engineering, contracting, and interior design helped ensure the unit became a seamless element of the overall clinic environment.
Our team’s involvement spanned the full project lifecycle – from engineering and design assistance through to installation. Working closely with WSP on system design and with Seabrook Brothers Ltd. as the installing contractor, our engineers provided input well before tender, ensuring that system performance targets and installation constraints were addressed early in the process. This proactive approach eliminated common integration issues and supported a smooth, on-schedule installation.
The final result is a fully optimized HVAC solution that delivers efficiency, airflow performance, and reliability while also serving as a visible but integrated feature of the clinic.
