GreenLeaf Productions Inc., recently licensed by Health Canada to extract CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids, required a high-security facility with advanced mechanical and ventilation systems to support their operations. We worked closely with the contractor and engineering firm to provide an alternate proposal that met the client’s budget and performance requirements.

Challenges

GreenLeaf Productions needed a robust and efficient mechanical and ventilation system for their high-security cannabis extraction facility. The system had to handle various areas, including ethanol extraction, processing, testing labs, and clean and dirty rooms. Key challenges included providing precise air temperature control, effective dehumidification, and preventing cross-contamination while staying within budget.

The Solution

We supplied a Valent VX-212-20D-M DOAS unit with gas heating and a direct expansion air conditioning (DX) cooling unit to service the ethanol extraction and processing areas, the testing lab, and other integral sections of the facility. The Valent unit featured a gas burner with a high turndown ratio of 16:1 and digital scroll compressors, ensuring precision air temperature control throughout all seasons. Additionally, the unit was equipped with hot gas reheat for effective dehumidification.

To service both the clean and dirty room areas, we provided two separate 8-ton LG variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heat pump systems. The VRF systems allowed for independent temperature control of multiple spaces with varying loads and uses, eliminating cross-contamination concerns with dedicated indoor units for each space.

In addition to the main mechanical systems, we supplied various ventilation equipment, including a 24,000-cfm PennBarry MXI mixed flow inline fan for emergency ventilation in the extraction room, along with charcoal filter housings and HEPA filter housings.

Our Approach

Our approach focused on delivering a high-performance, cost-effective solution by collaborating closely with Comfort Zone Services and Strik Baldinelli Moniz. We leveraged our extensive product lineup and application knowledge to provide an alternate proposal that met the client’s budget and performance requirements. The Valent DOAS unit and LG VRF systems ensured precise temperature control, effective dehumidification, and independent room control, addressing all key challenges of the project.

Conclusion

This project showcased O’Dell  ability to deliver first-class solutions with our impressive product lineup and application knowledge. By working collaboratively with the contractor and engineering firm, we successfully provided a robust and efficient mechanical and ventilation system for GreenLeaf Productions Inc., ensuring their facility met the stringent requirements for cannabis extraction.
